historic preservation

mrs. jones has had the honor recently of updating pieces originally done by local creative goddesses lesa rowe and susan driscoll.  it was more than a little daunting to touch anything done by their super-talented hands!

the top of this chest needed a re-touch after a cabinet topping it was removed for repurposing.  to complement the finish lesa had done, my lovely client agreed to soft black with some glaze.  before & after:

a few years ago, (1989 maybe?) susan driscoll had this mirror built and then put a really great faux-bois finish on it.  her daughter, now in possesion of the historically significant piece, requested an update: gilding to replace the metallic paint on the edges, and a painted monogram on the canvas panel on top.  here are before, after, and details:

for the monogram, a specialist had to be called in…my covered-up-in-talent friend, lauren keras.
