margalo

the drawer pull – from anthropologie - i found for this rustic little table reminds my meg of the sweet, determined (and slightly troubled) bird from one of our all-time favorite stories, stuart little.
so here, dedicated to margalo fans everywhere, is before & after:

(the base coat is benjamin moore’s bali, #702, stenciled on top with brocade in cameo white, #915.)

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

to celebrate today’s 45th anniversary of the film mary poppins (one of the best, sweetest movies ever!) mrs. jones would like to call out to her own personal imaginary magical nanny, jocasta innes.  whenever i am feeling (like young jane banks) a little stuck, frustrated, and/or panicked, the books i pull from the shelf for advice, techniques and color formulas [...]

more for the girls

the precious punkins getting settled in to their new room (please see chandelier, below) will have this plate rack on which to display their treasures.  my lovely client wanted to give it a little color, and so we aimed for the pale apple green (an amped-up version of benjamin moore’s neon celery, #2031.60) in a fabric in the [...]

solvent, solved

it’s official: mrs. jones will no longer dread/fear/loathe stripping wax from old furniture…

…it’s a minor miracle. it performed exactly like mineral spirits, is environmentally gentle, and can be disposed of without putting on your haz-mat suit.  but wait, there’s more!  the studio now smells like an orange grove…heavenly!  the manufacturer makes no claim in this regard, but [...]

chandelier for lucky little girls

a pretty start to what is certainly going to be the prettiest little girls’ room…my lovely (and sharp-eyed) client has found several perfect pieces, a few just need a tweak.  this chandelier is just the beginning.  it was, however, a little too pink against the pale yellow walls, and so the request was for a creamy finish, retaining [...]

where are my manners?

a belated “thank-you” to the very kind marie for the mention on her wonderfully vintage-y blog, romance & relics.  she’s the go-to girl for a flea-market fix.  if you have found your way here via r & r, welcome! and please make yourself at home.

dad, men, “mad men”

in anticipation of tomorrow night’s long-awaited season premiere of mr. jones’s and my only truly “must” tv, we are having our own tiny “mad men” moment.  (and it is not cocktail-related.  at least not yet.)  below, my father’s “corporate photographic portrait” by fabian bachrach, circa 1962…selena mcadams  suggested it be displayed (brilliantly, cheekily) alongside my pair of amy rowan’s collaborative [...]

recent works on display

while there are many artists i admire, the works i enjoy most are, of course, the ones the little joneses have created.  recently, chris garner had one of his famous garage sales at his studio, where gorgeous frames that are for one reason or another deemed unsuitable by the original client are made available at a bargain price to mere mortals like [...]

the best week of the year…

…is finally here.
