cirque de taylor

what an honor to be included in the celebration as precious miss mcadams turned two!  naturally, selena and patrick had seen to every perfect detail.  it was a sweet & charming circus-themed afternoon with family and friends, and no scary clowns.  happy birthday, taylor.

more (and more fabulous!) photos, and a delicious slice of abundantly talented photographer & author melissa anderson sweazey’s work are [...]

coming up…

…two of the most fun days of the year, this tuesday and wednesday…”le cadeau”. on offer: gifts, antiques & accessories (katherine kaelin & karen klawinski), antique & estate jewelry (nikki mcvean & joanne hathcock), and art by adair parthenais & paige thompson.  if you are in the memphis area and have not recieved your invitation in the mail, [...]

hey, cupcake

you know that mrs. jones loves hearing from you, and was especially honored to receive a very kind email recently from catherine golden.  her name may not be familiar to you, but you will recognize her fab home from a spread in domino….she was the very deserving bedroom makeover contest winner.  she sent me photos of some [...]

curbside service

one of the most effective ways to embarrass the little joneses is to pull over at the curb and load a neighbor’s trash into the station wagon.  these shelves were just too good to pass up, and so, hazard lights a-flashing, we slowly made our way the last three blocks home with them – the shelves, not the [...]

dancing with the stars

this should come as no surprise: mrs. jones is all in on donny osmond to win.

premiere tonight: abc-tv, 7pm memphis time.  dial 800.868.3405 to vote.

blue horizon

as you know, while it is the only way to get things exactly right for her clients (and that’s the most important thing!) mrs. jones is at times vexed by the sampling process.  but when a lovely client requested two boards to compare different finishes in fine paints of europe’s hollandlac formula,  she could not get those cans (fresh off the fedex flight) opened [...]

meanwhile ulysses at the palace waits…

imagine moving into a home with a wall that had been hand-painted with lines from homer’s odyssey, book vii (alexander pope’s translation).  you wouldn’t dare paint over it, would you?  but if it was a little dusty and faded, and the wood was very dry, you might use some murphy’s oil soap to clean it, and some [...]

pest control

here in tennessee, a young lady unafraid of insects is highly regarded.  (the jones boys, for example, will always seek the girl in the crowd who can bait her own hook.)  this particularly brave young miss requested a wall crawling with lady bugs and other (friendly) six-legged creatures.  her lovely mom visualized the design, and provided the paints from fabulous serena & lily…all we [...]

who knew?

despite mrs. jones’s generally optimistic view of “befores”, these chairs – a brilliant find by a sharp-eyed client - did not look promising upon arrival.  (the word “groovy”, actually, came to mind, before realizing how sturdy and comfy they are.) however, after a satin-y black treatment and some faded gilding on the caned backs, they will look very [...]

telling secrets

apparently, last night our hydrangeas and magnolia tree whispered to each other and planned matching outfits for today.

i wish i could do that  with paint.

varnishing day

unlike the traditional “varnishing day” (below), or those at the salon de paris that deborah davis describes in her excellent, fascinating book, strapless, varnishing days at our little studio are all about cleaning and making sure things are washed, swept, vacuumed, swiffer’d and totally dust-free.  (and when using the gorgeous but especially unforgiving high-gloss varnishes and lacquers, we even change out the air filters…it’s [...]

dove season

another trip to columbia, another wonderful evening with family and friends…the ever-gracious delk & mary susan kennedy hosted a hunt supper at their beautiful glendale farm to usher in the beginning of hunting season in tennessee.

when it was time to come home, it was awfully hard for the little joneses to leave regina the beagle.

happy birthday

hard to believe (or perhaps not?) that our little website is two years old!  to celebrate, mrs. jones’s web designer extraordinaire ryan rowlett is working on some improvements and updates: new photos sprinkled all around, enhancements for the journal, and – oh my - a me & mrs. jones facebook page.  so those kind readers who have [...]

lilly at the flea

the current state of mrs. jones’s physique (possibly cupcake-related?) precludes her from wearing the cute lilly pulitzer prints that some of her friends sport with such elan.  the classic pink & green lilly look, though, was inspiration for the treatment on this little flea market shelf.
