despite mrs. jones’s generally optimistic view of “befores”, these chairs – a brilliant find by a sharp-eyed client - did not look promising upon arrival.  (the word “groovy”, actually, came to mind, before realizing how sturdy and comfy they are.) however, after a satin-y black treatment and some faded gilding on the caned backs, they will look very snazzy, upholstered in yummy butterscotch-gold velvet.
