will it go ’round in circles? on the right is a sample panel done with another fab cynthia davis/rena paris wallovers design, roundabout. the background is venetian plaster, tinted towards benjamin moore’s powell buff, #hc.35, with the stencil applied in gold leaf.
(once the design is husband-approved, this will be on the walls inside the bar area of the client’s [...]
with our menfolk at the farm hosting what’s affectionately known as the annual redneck bar mitzvah (or, twra youth hunt weekend) it was time for meg and me to jammie up and pop in some dvd’s. we can’t wait to find out – again – if nancy drew will find the missing will hidden in the shop [...]
many thanks to cynthia davis, my favorite teacher of all time, for the recent mention and photo of my sample panels in her wallovers newsletter. her new “marrakesh” stencil has been a blast to play around with….next: a clay beige (benjamin moore # oc.11) background with tangerine and azalea-pink for the medallions. then shades of green on pale yellow. [...]
my lovely client requested a “found furniture” look for her new kitchen island…one that was already a little broken-in, so that her three darlings can bump away at it and only enhance the look…not that anything wouldn’t look terrific with her fabulous granite. (better photos coming as soon as the hardware is all installed, but here [...]
it’s a sort of well-kept secret that mrs. jones runs a very selective summer sweatshop internship program. only the most exceedingly qualified applicants are considered! this year, the choice was easy, and lovely libby moore spent some time with me covering furniture painting basics. she then (with only a tiny bit of help) made over two pieces from the family attic for her college apartment. she’s [...]
the drumbeats are becoming too loud to ignore…we have no official corporate confirmation, but it seems that the beautiful truth is out there…anthropologie is finally coming to memphis. summer 2010, at saddle creek, or so the tale is told. it’s just too exciting! i think you all know what this means.
these sweet old chairs needed a little spa-time…first, some gluing and clamping:
then, as my lovely client requested: pratt & lambert’s blue fog, #26.22, just peeking through benjamin moore’s louisburg green, #hc.113, gently rubbed back, and with some softening glaze on top.
i love the little scrolled detail at the top of the chairs.
well…what do you think so far? as advertised, the amazing ryan rowlett has begun our second-anniversary website spruce-up. prepare for some changes, experiments, and tweaks over the coming days.
and, as you now may leave a comment, mrs. jones hopes that just as she always chooses kindness, beauty, and the best possible angle, that you will, too.
alas, no taylor swift tickets to be had. but plenty of fun at the lincoln park zoo and at clinton kelly’s “make over america” fashion show, terrific meals at rosebud, (so good, we had to go to carmine’s, too) foodlife, homer’s (with margaret!), toast, oak tree, tony afternoon tea at the four seasons and the ritz-carlton, and genuflections at our favorite stations [...]
with mr. jones and the boys off to south carolina to hunt, it seems clear: all signs point north for meg, kit kittredge and me. so please excuse us for a few days, and of course i’ll have the full chicago debriefing for you next week.
…apparently now equals lonny. hmmmm.
this may be just the thing for those occasional bouts of domino (and house & garden, cottage living, blueprint and southern accents) withdrawl we’re still experiencing.
october!…time to pull out the spooky owl stencil and make meg and her pals some new halloween t-shirts.
of course, when you’re an mus fan, owls are always de rigueur.
here are sample boards inspired by helen morris’s excellent print room workshop in july (and using the great stencil she gave each of us). this one is done using joe eula’s charming illustrations from the 1961 book tiffany’s table manners for teenagers by walter hoving. the background is benjamin moore’s linen white with some white streaked in, stenciled on with pratt & lambert’s hyacinth dream, [...]
mrs. jones is thrilled to have made the acquaintance this week of an exceptionally talented, creative, inspiring young lady, lauren anderson stone. watch your radar screen for her presence…she is creating some fabulous things, and is already making the world a much more beautiful place. if you have found your way here through the exceedingly generous recent mention in her delightful blog, welcome.
