generous-spirited design bloggers meg fairfax fielding and chris cox have teamed up once again this year to direct our attention toward helping those among us who are hungry. and not just weight-watchers-points-counting-hungry like mrs. jones…really truly hungry. will you lovely readers consider giving today to your local food bank, feeding america or feed the children? thank you. for even [...]
this is exactly the kind of yummy/swanky/comfy chair i can imagine perching upon at a glamorous gathering…and now the fabulous gwen driscoll has re-imagined it for her lovely client. after being given rubbed-back layers of softened off-white and gray paint (okay, this is the part where you use your imagination…) it will be reupholstered in cream-colored leather.
of course, [...]
please indulge one final post-script post to our recent santa fe trip: the beautiful chapel of our lady of light (popularly known as the loretto chapel, subject of the movie the staircase and an “unsolved mysteries” episode) is interesting and historic for oh-so many reasons…what was really appealing about it to me, though, were the finishes employed by their craftsmen [...]
a lovely client has just painted the paneling in her cozy library this wonderful mossy green, and wanted the fireplace mantel to have a new look (more “weight”/depth/character) too. layers of benjamin moore’s mink (#2112.10), slightly distressed, and tinted wax gave the desired effect. before & after:

distressed & decoupaged cupcake chair…seat: 15.25 w x 15.5 d, 31.5 h
glossy black theresa table with drawer & curvy shelf….15 w x 24 d x 24 h

this pair of sweet beds had been stored by a lovely client’s mother, just waiting for their moment in her granddaughter’s new room. since they’re on their way to atlanta, it will be a while before there is a real, true, all-made-up ”after” to show you, but in the meantime, here is the before and some details:
after the usual prep & [...]
many thanks to everyone for coming by to celebrate with mrs. jones at market central yesterday!
and big love to kat, anna and the 4am squadron at muddy’s bake shop for absolutely spot-on color-matching the icing. (pratt & lambert # 24.26, boucle.) each one of the 14 dozen was perfect.
no, not the one with the carnival rides and funnel cakes…the spring fayre event today through saturday at the palladio group shops in midtown memphis. guest speakers, art and gardening demonstrations, spring fashions, estate jewelry and trunk shows are all on offer. and please drop by and see me & mrs. jones at market central between ten and [...]
please help educate mrs. jones! at a little folk art market in santa fe, this piece caught my eye….i loved the broken gilding on the top and edges, and was intrigued by the images on the panels. despite a language barrier, they were happy to accept mr. jones’s amex card, and so the impulse purchase was made. [...]
something else learned while in santa fe: those little party lanterns we’ve been making forever with paper bags, sand, and votives, (and sometimes stenciling with a theme-appropriate graphic, like the ones below) and referring to as “luminaries”, originated in new mexico and are more correctly called farolitos.
there, luminaria are more often small vigil fires, traditionally built in the courtyard of [...]
it was a huge treat to spend spring break in such a unique, beautiful, fascinating spot. during our stay, the mountain areas recieved 18+ inches of new snow, thrilling my skiiers and boarders.
luckily, the wonderful shops (santa fe dry goods, street feet, acc, passementerie, seret & sons, simply santa fe), restaurants (cafe pasqual’s, gabriel’s, the coffee shop at the la fonda), canyon [...]
many thanks to deborah at boxwood terrace for her recent kind words and comments…mrs. jones is feeling the love! if you’ve found your way here via her lovely blog, welcome.
please check back in next week…santa fe is just as fabulous as advertised! (don’t worry, i have my baedeker.)
today is the day! mrs. jones officially sticks her toe into retail with her own little slice of market central:
a spot to find freshened-up vintage furniture and fixtures, painted pots, stenciled pillows, and more. with this little “vignette” space, there will only be room for a few pieces at a time, but (hopefully) something new on offer every time you [...]
for those of you playing the home game, here is the before, during & after of the little vignette, and all the particulars:
paint colors, from benjamin moore: ivory white, #925 (base coat – wall and floor), brushed aluminum, #1485 (used for stenciling), deep indigo, #1442 (dark checks on floor) and bali, #702 (lighter frames). from pratt & lambert: boucle, #24.26 (darker frames) and on the [...]
technically (if you care to delve into technical furniture-related nomenclature) this is probably too long-legged to be considered a true cocktail table. but something about the curvy, sassy little shelf underneath this piece seemed to require the high-gloss, black-patent-leather-party-shoe treatment. and that prompts thoughts of a cocktail party. and it’s not nearly friday yet.
anyway, before & after:
for good measure, a little fancy-ing up of [...]
