…she is somewhere between camp riva-lake and camp bear track just about now.
back soon with fun things to show you. see you right after the laundry is done.

after launching our children for another great day at camp tatonka, mmes. blackstone, faber & jones snuck away for a most inspiring & hospitable visit at silo studios in thompson’s station, tennessee. little wonder that shawn south-aswad’s fans show up early to get in line at her amazing home/studio for monthly “studio thursdays”…it’s a happening! even if you don’t take home a piece [...]
the young joneses are still wrapping up final exams & those many many school-year-end events, but for once, i’m ahead of schedule on something…we officially have our favorite roll-down-the-windows-and-turn-it-up song for the summer. so the pressure is off there.
bonus: in the happy, fun video, the band perry is (wait for it….) painting! yes they are, glamorously graffiti-style, and having [...]
with it being may and all, you know there has to be a graduation in here somewhere, too. last week, my fine feathered friends and i threw a little celebratory luncheon for harriet (our first graduating hen-ette). since she is a sushi fan, and a new graduate naturally wants to know what her future might hold, the [...]
not really…but i hope you will forgive my lack of photographable progress of late. truly, there are lots of fun & interesting things in the works, and as things wrap up and are ready to share, you know you’ll get all the details.
in the meantime, you can go over to my dear friend bill oates’s latest project, the wild dream book, and have a peek. [...]
an invitation to a day at alabama chanin…how could i not go? two of my most intrepid, trusting & lovely friends were game enough to adventure with me to florence for the weekend on this particular whim. after a visit to billy reid’s fabulous headquarters & shop (where darling kimberly hughston & cricket made us right at home)…
…we spent the afternoon at natalie [...]
coincidence? i think not. today’s dictionary.com word of the day: dishabille.
noted in this morning’s nyt style/design magazine, regarding this spread on todd selby & apartamento: “tousled: studied interior design dishabille; the antidote to perfectly styled rooms that have long been the aspirational norm in design magazines…”
dishabille was one of my grandmother’s very favorite words…though she (charmingly) pronounced [...]
many thanks to everyone for coming by to celebrate with mrs. jones at market central yesterday!
and big love to kat, anna and the 4am squadron at muddy’s bake shop for absolutely spot-on color-matching the icing. (pratt & lambert # 24.26, boucle.) each one of the 14 dozen was perfect.
please help educate mrs. jones! at a little folk art market in santa fe, this piece caught my eye….i loved the broken gilding on the top and edges, and was intrigued by the images on the panels. despite a language barrier, they were happy to accept mr. jones’s amex card, and so the impulse purchase was made. [...]
it was a huge treat to spend spring break in such a unique, beautiful, fascinating spot. during our stay, the mountain areas recieved 18+ inches of new snow, thrilling my skiiers and boarders.
luckily, the wonderful shops (santa fe dry goods, street feet, acc, passementerie, seret & sons, simply santa fe), restaurants (cafe pasqual’s, gabriel’s, the coffee shop at the la fonda), canyon [...]
for those of you playing the home game, here is the before, during & after of the little vignette, and all the particulars:
paint colors, from benjamin moore: ivory white, #925 (base coat – wall and floor), brushed aluminum, #1485 (used for stenciling), deep indigo, #1442 (dark checks on floor) and bali, #702 (lighter frames). from pratt & lambert: boucle, #24.26 (darker frames) and on the [...]
mrs. jones took a short break today to help decorate for a party meg’s grade gave celebrating the olympics and benefitting haiti. minimizing the expenses to maximize the donation, we got global with some beach balls, created torches for the games & awards, and stenciled olympic rings on to butcher paper for the tables. with a great dj (how many [...]
reminder: if you’re in the memphis area, tonight at 6pm is the big veiled remarks event at davis-kidd booksellers. my gorgeous and uber-talented friend melissa anderson sweazy will be reading from her new book, and signing copies, too. see you there.
a slightly sheepish mr. jones came home last night bearing a tiny envelope. he had (so thoughtfully) tried to surprise me at christmas by having these kooky paste-opal & -amethyst earrings of my grandmother’s modified from painful, janky clip-ons to comfy french wires, but they couldn’t be done in time. not knowing the full depth of my recently developed and extremely serious case of “the young [...]
with it being the last day of robert burns’s 250th birthday year, an appropriate new year’s eve celebration seemed in order. antlers, moss, turkey feathers and other treasures gathered from the farm (along with our shrine to the auld lang syne poet) set the “scottish muirs” mood for dinner and a cup of kindness to ring in 2010 with a few friends.
thank you, [...]
nothing nearly as poetic as the twelve days of christmas, but this week seems to have become all about large quantities of things:
two little joneses taking eight final exams, twenty-eight wrapped packages for the 5th grade class angel family, fourteen coffee cakes for teachers, forty-eight special treats for friends, two projects left to wrap up, and one more trip to the post [...]
for mr. jones’s clan, all roads lead home to columbia, tennessee. there, you have wagging doggies to greet you, beautiful nieces and wonderful cousins-by-the-dozens to see, young men shed of their navy blazers to play football with, plenty of rolls - and everything else! - to go around twice (and butter turkeys to go along), friendly horses and cows that come looking for apples, and never quite enough time.
in [...]
what a coincidence that as i found on our fence this one lonely last rose, today’s postcard from provence was arriving in my in-box:
thrilling me that julian merrow-smith, halfway around the world, was having a pink novmeber rose moment, too.
what? you are in tucson, and have not yet made plans to attend “fresh paint” at the university of arizona’s art museum? well, what are you waiting for? here are the details: saturday, november 14, 6 until 9:30 pm, great music – two bands! - yummy appies & drinks, and live and silent auctions featuring affordable art in [...]
under a halloween-perfect moon, the cutest little visitors came to mrs. jones’s door tonight.
with our menfolk at the farm hosting what’s affectionately known as the annual redneck bar mitzvah (or, twra youth hunt weekend) it was time for meg and me to jammie up and pop in some dvd’s. we can’t wait to find out – again – if nancy drew will find the missing will hidden in the shop [...]
it’s a sort of well-kept secret that mrs. jones runs a very selective summer sweatshop internship program. only the most exceedingly qualified applicants are considered! this year, the choice was easy, and lovely libby moore spent some time with me covering furniture painting basics. she then (with only a tiny bit of help) made over two pieces from the family attic for her college apartment. she’s [...]
alas, no taylor swift tickets to be had. but plenty of fun at the lincoln park zoo and at clinton kelly’s “make over america” fashion show, terrific meals at rosebud, (so good, we had to go to carmine’s, too) foodlife, homer’s (with margaret!), toast, oak tree, tony afternoon tea at the four seasons and the ritz-carlton, and genuflections at our favorite stations [...]
with mr. jones and the boys off to south carolina to hunt, it seems clear: all signs point north for meg, kit kittredge and me. so please excuse us for a few days, and of course i’ll have the full chicago debriefing for you next week.
mrs. jones is thrilled to have made the acquaintance this week of an exceptionally talented, creative, inspiring young lady, lauren anderson stone. watch your radar screen for her presence…she is creating some fabulous things, and is already making the world a much more beautiful place. if you have found your way here through the exceedingly generous recent mention in her delightful blog, welcome.
what an honor to be included in the celebration as precious miss mcadams turned two! naturally, selena and patrick had seen to every perfect detail. it was a sweet & charming circus-themed afternoon with family and friends, and no scary clowns. happy birthday, taylor.
more (and more fabulous!) photos, and a delicious slice of abundantly talented photographer & author melissa anderson sweazey’s work are [...]
…two of the most fun days of the year, this tuesday and wednesday…”le cadeau”. on offer: gifts, antiques & accessories (katherine kaelin & karen klawinski), antique & estate jewelry (nikki mcvean & joanne hathcock), and art by adair parthenais & paige thompson. if you are in the memphis area and have not recieved your invitation in the mail, [...]
another trip to columbia, another wonderful evening with family and friends…the ever-gracious delk & mary susan kennedy hosted a hunt supper at their beautiful glendale farm to usher in the beginning of hunting season in tennessee.
when it was time to come home, it was awfully hard for the little joneses to leave regina the beagle.
in anticipation of tomorrow night’s long-awaited season premiere of mr. jones’s and my only truly “must” tv, we are having our own tiny “mad men” moment. (and it is not cocktail-related. at least not yet.) below, my father’s “corporate photographic portrait” by fabian bachrach, circa 1962…selena mcadams suggested it be displayed (brilliantly, cheekily) alongside my pair of amy rowan’s collaborative [...]
