armoires, au revoir? not yet.

November 10, 2007 by Mrs. Jones Admin

in an article titled “au revior, armoire”, this morning’s wall street journal reports on “why the furniture mainstay is being driven to extinction” (culprit: flat-panel tv sets) and includes a feature on re-purposing and painting an entertainment armoire to a wardrobe.  a-hem…  we’ve been doing that for a while now in memphis, tennessee!

this summer, i  repaired and painted an old armoire in high-gloss white for a darling little girl’s room.  it had been destined for the attic, and now has a new life in a happy home, filled with dress-up clothes and art supplies.  i’m so glad that the client and her designer saw the potential for usefulness and elegance in a tired old piece.

re: recycling

November 9, 2007 by Mrs. Jones Admin

my friends know that i have serious landfill guilt about having used so many disposable diapers on the little joneses.  i strive to be “green” in my painting practices, using acrylic and low- or non-VOC products whenever possible, and environmentally correct techniques always.

of course, being green can also involve re-using or re-purposing existing materials.  one of my favorite re-use projects was a pair of “look what was in the attic” dressers that we glamified for a very stylish teenage girl’s room:

i hope this keeps mr. gore off my case for a while.

armoire – before & after

November 7, 2007 by stephanie

here’s a piece done recently for some super-lovely clients.  it was a little dark and heavy-looking for the beautiful room it’s in, so we lightened it up with paint and glaze.

to celebrate the launch of our website, my sweet dad had these pencils made with mrs. jones’s URL on them.  my very tech-savvy parents are relieved, i’m sure,  that i have finally established a www address.  since my father had a long and brilliant career with IBM and other tech-sector firms, and my clued-in, media/PR maven mom developed the website for their community, i’m a little behind the family curve.

these pencils are a limited edition, and are going fast…get in touch soon!

(thank you honey & bug!)

welcome to the journal!

November 1, 2007 by stephanie

thank you very much for visiting!  this is where i will be posting news, notes, inspirations, and photos of some current projects, especially when there is a good “before & after” to show you.  it will include headlines and highlights: anything new, or different, or special.  (which is what i hope most of my work is!)  please check back often to see what’s going on with me & mrs. jones.

here we go!

November 1, 2007 by stephanie

well, all i can say is…ta da!  the website is up and running.  i hope that you will enjoy being here, and visit often.

i want to send a huge thank you to ryan rowlett.  a talented artist and website designer, ryan has made all my web wishes come true.  contact him at r.y.a.n.speedwagon@gmail.com.  he will graduate from the memphis college of art in spring 2008.  anything you might like about my site is due to ryan’s tireless efforts to get it just right for me.

of course i must also say thank you to my beautiful friend gracie nesin, another emerging talent and soon-to-be-mca-graduate, for introducing me to ryan.  i hope to feature both of their work here in the future.

and i need to shout out (really loudly) my thanks to sebastian lara, a recent notre dame graduate and world traveler who is doing freelance computer trouble-shooting here in memphis while finalizing plans for medical school.  sebastian brought my computer back from flat-line status, and installed and educated me on picasa, enabling me to put images here in the journal.  e-mail him at seabasslara@gmail.com.  he’s a genius.  the doctor is in!
