spring break, and a de-lish visit to one of our favorite places. foremost, great food: camellia grill, parkway bakery, lilette, acme oyster house, pie, deanie’s, gelato at angelo brocato’s, and of course, daily beignet runs to cafe du monde. and while my family enjoyed a swamp tour and the audubon aquarium, mr. jones gave me a pass for a day on magazine street, to devour the delights…block after block of darling creole cottages housing all sorts of boutiques. thank you to all of the lovely shopkeepers who made me so welcome…especially at perch (jack), petricia thompson (anna & sarah blair), bellenoche (jennifer), fleur d’orleans (rachel), julie neill (the other julie), balzac (sarah), and gerrie bremermann (katherine, and – most thrilling of all – the lovely and legendary gerrie herself!)
there was wonderful artwork, especially by amanda talley, michelle rosato tullis, and john hodge, and gorgeous things in the french quarter, too, at moss antiques and lucullus (though sadly, clovis the bulldog was not there).
on the streetcar ride through the garden district, i noticed several great old homes and buildings with the porch ceilings painted sky blue…the wisdom says that it keeps stinging pests from building nests. i may try it at our backdoor this spring.
